National Day of Action: #copsoffcampus demonstration at Sheffield University
On Wednesday 11th December 2013, protesters, including the leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, Natalie Bennett, met on the concourse outside Sheffield Students’ Union to demonstrate as part of a national campaign against police officers on university campuses. After a few minutes of chanting, they marched towards Firth Court, where the offices of many management personnel, including Vice-Chancellor Keith Burnett, are situated. A half-hearted attempt was made to gain access to the building with an aim to occupying, but the doors had already been locked by members of security.
There was further chanting, as well as speeches from Olly Clay, former politics councillor, Rosie Hazard, from the National Campaign Against Cuts and Fees, and various other activists. A minutes silence was held in solidarity with the victims of police brutality at Orgreave and Hillsborough, before protesters moved back down to the concourse to disperse.
